The Problem
The campus mess handled hundreds of students per meal with manual entry logs and cash-based billing. Queue times were long, billing disputes were frequent, there was no data on actual consumption patterns, and students had no way to check menus or balances in advance.
The Approach
Deployed NFC-based entry gates that authenticate students with a tap, automatically deduct meal charges, and log consumption data. The system tracks meal patterns per student, manages account balances, and sends push notifications about menu changes and food availability. Kitchen staff get prep forecasts based on historical attendance data.
How it was built
Analyzed mess traffic patterns — peak hours, no-show rates, and meal preference data to design the system around actual usage.
Built the NFC entry system with sub-second authentication and automatic billing — no queues, no manual logging.
Developed the student-facing app — real-time balance, meal history, upcoming menus, and dietary preference filters.
Created the kitchen dashboard — attendance predictions for meal prep, waste reduction analytics, and inventory alerts.
Integrated with the Seamless campus platform for unified student account management.
